Case Study – International Imposter Syndrome Awareness Day
How I Put Together and Managed a Programme of Virtual Events for This Awareness Day
Background
In 2021 I co-founded International Imposter Syndrome Awareness Day, or #IISAD for short, with Nat Schooler and Kim Adele. We launched it on April 13th 2021 in response to the rising number of people impacted by Imposter/Impostor Syndrome, to empower people to learn more about the phenomenon and to provide free resources and support to help with managing it.
It was so successful that is now an annual event that aims to raise awareness and provide support to help people overcome their inner critic.
The form of the day consists of a series of online events which includes webinars, Q&A sessions and panel discussions to open up the conversation around imposter syndrome.
Event Organisation
I planned out the event by breaking the day down into 1 hour timeslots and deciding the types of content that I would like to include as part of the day. I then out a call for speakers and participants for the day on my social media channels and the #IISAD channels with a closing date of 28 February 2023.
From the submissions I programmed in a series of webinars, Q&A’s and panel discussions to open up the conversation around imposter syndrome, these events included:
10.00am: Webinar – Imposter Syndrome and Intersectionality by Katie Humphrey
11.00am: Webinar – Reframe Your Imposter by Denise Chester
12.00pm: Q&A Session – The Link Between Narcissism and Imposter Syndrome with Dr Juliet Lyndle and Lisa Ventura
2.00pm: Webinar – Conquer Imposter Syndrome to Advance Your Career by Kim Meninger
3.00pm: Webinar – Defeating Doubt and Fear: Breaking Free From Imposter Syndrome by Kim Adele
4.00pm: Q&A Session with Zoe Rose and Chris Grundemann, Founders of the Imposter Syndrome Network Podcast
5.00pm: Q&A Session – Managing Imposter Syndrome: A Family’s Journey to Overcoming and Thriving with Dr Melissa Sassi and Zahra Sassi
6.30pm – Q&A Session – Turning Doubts into Motivation to Conquer Your Inner Imposter with Dianna Morikawa
Leading Up to the Event and the Day Itself
Once all the programming for the day had been done, my tasks included:
- Liaising with the speakers and participants to ensure they could use Streamyard (the events platform we used for the event)
- Updating the IISAD WordPress driven website with the events schedule and ensuring the site was kept up to date with relevant content
- Creating a “donate now” facility using PayPal and implementing it on the website
- Social media management and engagement to promote the day online
On the day itself my tasks included:
- Joining the events and welcoming speakers and participants/tech checks
- Participating in a welcome session for the day with my C-Founders Nat Schooler and Kim Adele
- Being a host for the event and introducing speakers and participants
- Acted as a host for Q&A and panel dicussion events
Special thanks go to Nat Schooler for his help with scheduling all the events on Streamyard and YouTube, and for helping with the IISAD site and social media channel engagement.

Post-Event Feedback
“Thank you Lisa, Nat and Kim for putting on a whole day of events dedicated to the phenomenon of imposter syndrome and helping to open up the conversation around it.”
“Loved the imposter syndrome event – Lisa you’re a wonderful speaker and I really enjoyed listening. All so relatable – in so many jobs I’ve felt afraid & self defeated – I conquered them but still felt the imposter and wondered if I’d get found out for faking doing my job.”
